BUSINESS CORRIDOR FOR CITY OF SEATAC
The City of SeaTac is located 12 miles south of Seattle with a population of 25,500. The city boundary surrounds the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport-the 17th busiest airport in the United States.
In the mid-1990s the City began a revitalization process that included the removal of all overhead distribution systems and attached cobrahead lighting to be replaced with underground utilities, including roadway and pedestrian lighting. "We looked at various elements of the project to see what exactly was needed and then we selected luminaires and pole types specific to design criteria for safety and security reasons," explains Don Monaghan, Assistant Director of Public Works. The majority of the lighting specified by the City was the Sierra luminaire mounted at 23 feet on a gray octagonal exposed-aggregate base with a 150-watt high-pressure sodium lamp. South of South 192nd within the median the Galleria luminaire was installed using two luminaires per pole at 40-foot mounting height with a 400-watt high-pressure sodium lamp.
The City of SeaTac benefited from INTOLIGHT's involvement in the design phase of the project. INTOLIGHT attended pre-construction meetings and coordinated with Puget Sound Energy's Major Projects Division during the conversion project to ensure that all streetlight circuitry was installed at specific locations. INTOLIGHT procured all lighting materials and arranged construction dates for the installation of the lighting system.
Monaghan summarizes, "All of the local businesses and city officials that have seen the lighting installation recognize it as a job well done and are very pleased with the lighting in the conversion area."
