REDMOND RIDGE
Redmond Ridge, a planned community on a 1,000-acre parcel located approximately 20 miles east of Seattle, includes 1,500 residential dwellings, business parks, a neighborhood community center, 18 parks and a trail system that stretches for 15 miles, connecting to other off-site King County trails. The community was developed as a joint venture between Quadrant and the City of Redmond. The vision for the development was to incorporate a national park-type theme and a residential community within an urban setting.
The goals for the outdoor lighting were to have it look decorative during the day, function well in the evening and appear as an integral part of the community. Quadrant reviewed a variety of street light luminaires to select the best application for each of the different areas in the development. Steve Orser, Assistant Vice President for Community Operations with Quadrant, was pleased with the large selection of luminaires and poles offered by INTOLIGHT.
Two different pole and luminaire types were selected for residential areas: One choice was the 100-watt high-pressure sodium, black K208 Moderne flat lens, side-mounted luminaire on a 16-foot pole. This luminaire was also used for the neighborhood community center and the parking lot. For the Sales Information Center, this same luminaire was used with a double bracket arm. The extra arm supports a decorative banner that is changed seasonally. The second lighting choice in the residential areas was a 100-watt, high-pressure sodium K308 drop lens, yoke-mounted, post-top luminaire installed on a black octagonal pole. All luminaires were selected to minimize up light and light trespass and to create a safe and secure feeling throughout the community.
The outdoor lighting system chosen by Quadrant and designed and installed by INTOLIGHT enhances the overall national-park theme while providing maximum comfort, efficiency and safety for the residents.
